Weekend Outlook 3/31-4/03, 2022

Trail Karma Opportunity:

  • Biggest Little Trail Stewards is collaborating on a fundraiser for two new park benches at Sierra Vista Park. The fundraising goal is $1500 and is about halfway funded. These benches will be much like the benches around the Peavine trail network and will be much appreciated. To donate on the go fund me campaign or share the link, click here.

Trail Outlook

Spring temps, blue skies, with evening breezes. No precipitation on the radar until Sunday evening and the only majorly gusty winds expected in Thursday and Sunday evenings. Trails continue to dry out and firm up. By the end of the weekend, Snow Terraces may even be firm but as of this morning it was still standing water and mud in multiple places. Snow, mud, and water above the Total Recall and Mahogany Benches in increasing amounts as you get higher. The spring flowers continue blooming all over the hill. Areas around the Hoge road trailhead and points north and west are blooming particularly thick for the region with yellows, pinks, and purples. I saw a few early Great Basin Lupine along the side of Crispy Bacon on the dawn patrol ride this morning (Thursday).

If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. There is spring corn snow to be found but that also means heavy wet top layers sometimes over persistent weak spots. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

Map of Peavine Trail Network with general highlights showing that upper mountain trails still hold snow and significant water but most mid and lower mountain trails are firm to dry.

Snow and water are beginning to become limited to highest elevations but some isolated patches or water remain.
