Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 10/25-10/31

Improving Conditions Upcoming

And just as quickly as the water arrived, it’s going away. We are looking at stereotypical Reno fall weather this week. Lows near freezing, highs in the sixties (16-21C), and clear bluebird days. With the near freezing conditions and relatively low wind the trails will mostly be drying due to sun exposure. Expect protected trails to stay soft and fragile until later in the week at least. Barring another weather system though, we should have some great later week trail conditions coming up. Just in time for that strange holiday three day weekend we call Nevada Day. So steal some of that candy you were going to give to the grubby masses and enjoy the outdoors!

Youth Job Training Opportunity

  • Reno Bike Project has begun recruitment for the upcoming FutureCycle cohort, to begin in January 2022. Specifically, the organization is looking for six youth, ages 16-24. Preferred candidates are those who think bikes can change lives, are interested in teaching, aren’t afraid to get dirty or afraid of a challenge, communicate well, are curious and excited to learn, and are fully COVID-19 vaccinated. Applications are due by December 20. Link for more info: https://renobikeproject.org/program/futurecycle/

This Week’s Events

  • Tuesday, October 26:

    • 5:45pm:

      • Silver State Striders will be running at Bartlett Ranch Regional park. Departing from the Huffaker school parking lot, there are hilly 5 and 7.5 mile options. Bring lights. More details on their website.

    • 4:30pm

      • Last Week of This Ride: Reno Wheelmen’s casual Verdi road ride rolls as a group from the CVS parking lot at Booth and California Ave at 4:30pm. Note the time change. ~25 miles paved with the option to add loops in Verdi and multiple regroup points on the way out for those less familiar with the route. Open to members and non-members alike. Bring a front and rear light. Details on their website.

    • 5:00pm

      • Reno Del Fuegos will be riding gravel and pavement around Spanish Springs on what they are calling their Tour de Taco. Mostly because there will be mexican food eaten at the end of the ride. Start and finish at Sparks Cyclery. Bring lights for both front and rear.

  • Thursday, October 28:

    • 5:00pm

      • Reno Wheelmen will be riding the Caughlin Ranch paths and Steamboat Ditch Trail out to Hole in The Wall and back for 15.5 miles total. Starting and ending at Eclipse Pizza with a gathering afterwards. Please park in the Roy Gomm elementary school lot next door.

    • 10:00am

      • Reno Wheelmen’s Sagebrush Cyclocross race #2 at Hidden Valley. If you’ve never raced CX, this is a ride what you have mixed pavement, grass, and soil surfaces type of race. Think tough mudder-esque on bikes. Details and registration link can be found on their event website here.

  • Sunday, October 31:

    • 8:00am:

      • Muscle Powered Carson city will be road riding from Fremont Elementary School.

    • 10:00am

That’s what’s on my radar at the moment. If you know of something I missed or is coming soon, send me an email and it might get listed. See you outside!
