Trail Outlook

You know how I said you can leave your wet weather shells at home last week? Well that doesn’t apply this weekend. Though the forecasted amount of rain has been reduced as we get closer to the weekend, we are still expecting extended periods of rain all day Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. The earlier rounds are expected to be weaker with the heaviest weather rolling in Saturday evening and Sunday. If we’re lucky, that means hero dirt Saturday morning. Regardless of luck, pack some water resistant layers and consider sticking to well drained routes if the rain ends up on the heavier side.

For those unfamiliar with the mountain, sections to avoid include Halo trail between Upper Poedunk West and North to Total Recall as well as Total Recall between First Bench and Lingle’s loop. Both of these have high clay low drainage areas that tend to bog and rut up when wet. For this weekend, they may still have a lot of absorption capacity, but are usually the first to get bad.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.
