Weekend Outlook 3/19-3/21, 2021

The trail is calling… it wants to talk to you about your cars extended warranty.

If you’re still feeling a little green after pretending that your .00025% irish heritage is anything you care about the other 364.25 days a year, getting out to the trails this weekend might just help. And you can admire the moment of greening going on on the hillsides too! With these rounds of bluster and precipitation, the wild onion is starting to green up the slopes of rancho connector and keystone areas. And more of that life giving precip is on its way. Thursday evening into midday Friday the forecast calls for more water than last weekend. As the showers pass, the breeze will pick back up so it is possible that Saturday and Sunday will again be premium dirt conditions for most of the mountain.

Made my Thursday morning dawn patrol ride but kept it mostly to the peavine dam since I needed to shake down the gravel bike. But I wasn’t the only one out recently and the mid-mountain report is a bit of a bummer. While the conditions below first bench and on the sun facing slopes are excellent, it seems a number of trail users are unaware that soft trail costs time and money to repair that could otherwise be put towards new trail. The slow melt of the snow on Total Recall above first bench is keeping the trail saturated and the reports from runners passing through is ruts and puddles. If you are heading up TR, please plan to turn around at the first bench for now. Go enjoy Stagecoach or Norton’s Toll Road if you want to make a loop.

Relatedly, Colpo is sun facing so if anyone has ventured over there and has information on that trail and bobsled, send me a trail report or comment on this post so we can know what is and isn’t accessible.

As always, if you get out on the mountain, submit a trail report and let us know how it is. I’ll update the front page as reports come in.
