Week Ahead Conditions Forecast & Weekend Wrap Up

The trailhead cleaners were out again. Saw about a half dozen twenty somethings picking trash up from around the West Keystone trailhead on Saturday. Y’all are amazing! Thank you.

Weekend Wrap Up

I am trying to keep the front page relatively brief, but want to share details of trail reports too. You can always submit anonymously and don’t have to agree to share your specific report. Here are the reports from the weekend:

  • 3/17/21 Upper Total Recall has severe damage where the snow fields are melting onto the trail and people are riding to the side, widening the singletrack. -Nikki R.

  • 3/18/21 Bone dry up Rancho Connector, classic Keystone, to Total Recall and down Poedunk -Paige G.

  • 3/20/21 Keystone canyon/UNR DH/ Evan’s/snake run. Bone dry! -Anon

Week Ahead Conditions Forecast

As I write this, it’s snowing on the mountain. On the first day of spring. I’m not surprised in the least. Today and tonight are the extent of the expected precipitation. Just enough to keep the wildflowers alive and the dust down for the moment. And dust is what is coming. Dry breezes through the week on bone dry conditions mid-mountain and lower means we are going to see less and less hero dirt and more and more dust over packed. Speaking of seeing things, if you are a wildflower fan, the Great Basin, or Beckwith’s, Violets are popping up on sunny south east slopes. Easy to miss but cute little early risers that tend to occur in groups.

This coming week should be quite nice for the evening rides. Lots of sunshine in the forecast. Total recall above first bench is still fragile with continued snowmelt. Still looking for updates on the soft spots on Halo between Total Recall and Bacon Strip. Additionally, with Over Easy being reported to be usable, has anyone attempted to get over to Lingles or Colpo from the bacons?

Update 3/23/21 Thank you Paige for a quick response regarding Colpo. Two sections are still snowbound and require walking carefully. Best to stay off it for now still. We can probably extrapolate that to mean the Bobsled is also still under snow and water and should be avoided since it is deep in the drainage below Colpo and thus more protected.

Keep the trail reports coming and I’ll see y’all on the next ride around!
