Trail Karma Opportunity:

  • Biggest Little Trail Stewards is collaborating on a fundraiser for two new park benches at Sierra Vista Park. The fundraising goal is $1500 and is about halfway funded. These benches will be much like the benches around the Peavine trail network and will be much appreciated. To donate on the go fund me campaign or share the link, click here.

Trail Outlook

Another fantastic spring weekend to get out on the trails. Everything up to the Mahogany Bench is effectively accessible if you are willing to hike a bike in a few key spots. There are three snow banks still straddling trails in the mid mountain. Specifically, just uphill of the Total Recall bench, just north on Halo of the Halo/Snow Terraces/Bacons junction, and about halfway down Colpo as you turn into the bowl that has the banked switch backs. The snow crossing the trail just above the Mahogany bench is not actually the main issue up there. The first bowl the trail goes through just above the snow bank is still rimmed with more snow that is running enough meltwater to flood most of the trail still. This may be the last weekend Mahogany is effectively closed, but for the moment it is still very fragile.

If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. There is spring corn snow is getting very patchy at this point. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

Isolated snow patches in the mid-mountain. Above Mahogany Bench is still too wet.
