Weekend Events:
Here are the events that are on the radar for this weekend:
Thursday, December 30:
5:45pm
Silver State Striders will be running at Bartlett Ranch Regional park. Departing from the Huffaker school parking lot, there are hilly 6 and 8 mile options. Lights and reflective attire required and traction aids a strong suggestion due to winter conditions. More details on their website.
Saturday, January 01:
9:00am
Silver State Striders are hosting their annual New Years Day run and running a modified silver state half route starting at Rancho San Rafael Museum/Gift Shop parking lot. Traction aids a strong suggestion due to winter conditions. More details on their Facebook Group Page.
Trail Outlook
Bluebird days this weekend. As long as you like your bluebird frozen solid. Highs will creep over the freezing mark and lows may get as low as single digits. Not a lot of wind in the forecast so conditions will be great for getting out with the right gear. Trails will be largely snow covered and frozen up to midday though you can expect patches of bare ground at lower elevations but even that should stay firm until around midday.
If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. This most recent series of storms has rearranged everything and created a lot of new hazards. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.
If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.
Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.
