Hidden Valley Regional Park Master Plan

Carcione and Canepa Ranch Master Plan

  • On the West end of the valley, at Mogul, there are two properties owned by the county and set aside as open space with long term plans to develop into parks. These are the Carcione and Canepa Ranch properties that span the river to the east of the Belli Ranch neighborhood, west of the Tom Cooke trails, and south of the freeway and train tracks. The county held an initial survey and public input meeting via zoom and now you can watch that meeting recording on youtube and provide additional input via filling out this survey by January 7, 2022.

Weekend Events:

Here are the events that are on the radar for this weekend:

      • Silver State Striders are not scheduling the usual hills run due to expected snow.

  • Saturday, December 25:

    • 8:00am

      • Silver State Striders are not scheduling the normal long run due to it being Christmas day.

Trail Outlook

Wet. Very wet. And at times snowy and windy. This storm has rolled in warmer than expected so Iā€™m not confident it will get cold enough to consistently stay snow at trailhead elevations. That means heavy sierra cement conditions if there is snow accumulating and otherwise an absolute mud hole if not. There are no major gaps in the storm expected during the weekend so this is a good time to take advantage of indoor time. Maybe even check out the Trail Karma opportunities above.

If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. Recent reports included heavy new snow, wind loading, and unstable cornices sitting on top of wind scoured crust. A real avalanche trifecta right there. Knowing when and where is best for backcountry can make the difference of coming home.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.
