Weekend Outlook 11/10-11/13, 2022

Temporary Trail Closure:

  • Tahoe Pyramid Trail between Floriston and Hirschdale is now reopened to traffic. There is snow and mud on many portions as well as some heavy machinery where the final touches of the most recent repair work are being made but through traffic in both directions is now possible. For more details and current trail warnings, check the official Tahoe Pyramid trail website linked here.

Trail Damage Warning:

  • Whites Creek had some serious flooding in the early August round of downpours. Major trail damage along much of the lower section of trail as well as some of the upper section. The local trail managers are all aware of the damage and would appreciate users seeking alternate routes until they are able to get repairs done. Due to the extensive nature of the current damage, that may not be this year. If you are planning on doing the Dry Pond loop, be careful or consider an out and back on the Thomas Creek side.

Weekend Events:

Here are the events that are on the radar for this weekend:

  • Thursday, November 10:

    • 5:45 pm

      • Silver State Striders are running out and back from the Glen Hare Center (350 Hunter Lake Dr) west along Mayberry. This is a very welcoming group for all skill levels. This run can be whatever length you want and headlamps and reflective clothing are a must. You may also consider traction aids with the recent snow. Check their Facebook Group Page for more details. You can also find their training schedule on their website at this link.

  • Saturday, November 12:

  • Sunday, November 13:

    • 12:30 PM

      • Reno Devo junior mountain bike’s regional team is holding an orientation at the Washoe County Downtown Library. Devo is a mountain bike development team based here in Reno preparing middle and high school age athletes for local, regional, and national level race competition. They are a great program that builds very quick kids. This is an RSVP required event so more information and RSVP can be found on their website linked here.

Trail Outlook

  • Cold with mud and snow. After the Tuesday snow dump, Wednesday afternoon got some direct sunshine on south facing slopes enough to begin to defrost up to around Sierra Vista and the Keystone Trailheads. Additional melt and drying is expected Thursday and Friday on those sun facing slopes but the temperatures are going to stay very low and snow is expected again on Saturday so anything with the slightest shade or uphill from Hoge road are likely to hold snow, ice, and mud. The eastern side of the Truckee Meadows dried out much faster so you are most likely to find mud and snow free loops at Hidden Valley Regional Park this weekend. Expect other regional trails such as steamboat ditch, Tahoe-Pyramid trail, and anything in Galena to be snow bound. Ballardini Ranch trail loops may dry up before the snow on Saturday, but the Sierra Front Connector heading South from Ballardini to Thomas Creek has a few very north facing slopes that are likely to hold snow and ice as well as be fringed with mud. If you have a fatbike, this would be a good weekend to get it out and take advantage of that extra float. If you’re traveling by foot, consider packing some traction aids. No matter how you get outside this weekend, dress for cold. Even in the sunshine, those high temps are going to be beautifully brisk.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

November 10, 2022 weekend trails forecast. Mixed mud and snow up to Mid Mountain. Any trail section not getting direct sunshine is likely to hold snow and ice. Significant snow even in sun exposed sections on Mahogany Forest trail in the upper mountain.
