Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 11/08-11/13, 2022

Trail Outlook: Cold and Wet

  • There will be no escaping the snow this week. Even down to the river snow is holding on north facing slopes so expect at best the most sun facing southerly slopes to have limited patches of drying. In other words, all trails are likely to have some amount of mud and snow throughout the week this week. With precipitation ongoing through Wednesday and temperatures at the end of the week staying low, drying will be patchy and slow in most places. This is probably a good week to get your bike in for that annual service before shops get busy or slather on a fresh coat of waterproofing on your winter boots and running shoes.

  • Temporary Trail Closure: Tahoe Pyramid Trail between Floriston and Hirschdale is closed for repair work. There are no alternate routes other than driving the highway so plan for out and back trips if you want to use the adjacent portions of the trail. For more details and current trail warnings, check the official Tahoe Pyramid trail website linked here. (11/01 note: TPT has announced that this closure is “Until Further Notice” and they are hoping for reopening this section “sometime in November.”)

  • Trail Damage Warning: Whites Creek had some serious flooding in the early August round of downpours. Major trail damage along much of the lower section of trail as well as some of the upper section. The local trail managers are all aware of the damage and would appreciate users seeking alternate routes until they are able to get repairs done. Due to the extensive nature of the current damage, that may not be this year. If you are planning on doing the Dry Pond loop, be careful or consider an out and back on the Thomas Creek side.
