Here are the events that are on the radar for this weekend:

• Thursday, January 19:

  • 5:45 pm

    • Silver State Striders will be running 7 ish miles of hills starting and ending at Eclipse Running (Moana & Lakeside). Headlamps, traction devices, and reflective clothing are a must. Check their Facebook Group Page for more details. You can also find their training schedule on their website at this link.

  • 6:30 pm

    • Biggest Little Trail Stewards are having their monthly meeting at Mi Casa Too on West 4th Street. This is open to all and is a great way to get involved behind the scenes in grassroots local trail building. See you there!

• Saturday, January 21:

  • 8:00 am

    • Silver State Striders will be running 12-14 miles of pavement with plenty of hills starting and ending at the Glen Hare Center. Traction devices are a must. Check their Facebook Group Page for more details. You can also find their training schedule on their website at this link.

• Sunday, January 22:

  • 9:30 am

    • Radical Adventure Riders of Reno (RAR) are leading a snowshoe hike in Tahoe Meadows to Chickadee Ridge. This is a very popular and easy snow shoe adventure that commonly includes hand feeding birds. They will be meeting to carpool at the Raleys in Galena. Final go/no-go decision will be weather and road conditions dependent and announced on their Discord channel. For more information, follow @rar.reno on Instagram.

Trail Outlook

• Calm, cold, and sunny this weekend. Temperatures aren’t expected to rise above freezing until Sunday so the snow is likely to stick around for most areas not getting direct sunshine. If the roads are open, there will be plenty of powder over packed and groomed trails around Tahoe Meadows and Chickadee Ridge. There is also enough snow that snowshoeing and fatbike riding in the Galena trail network is epic right now. Enjoy the winter wonderland and if you hit the resorts smile and waive to your fellow local as you both enjoy not being on holiday blackout anymore.

If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. The snowpack is diverse and still settling. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.
