Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 6/20-6/26, 2022

Trail Work Warning: Steamboat Ditch Skyline to Belford

  • Fire fuels reduction work is ongoing near the Steamboat Ditch trail between Skyline Drive and Belford Road. This work is being done by a herd of goats supported by flock protection dogs, shepherds, and temporary containment fencing. No direct impacts to the trail are expected, but please keep your dogs leashed, don’t disturb any temporary fencing, and know that the flock protection dogs may wander over to say hello.   • More settled weather this week. Calm winds and warming into the low 90s f. Absolutely fantastic mid summer conditions. If you’re an early riser, we are getting more morning activities on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Check them out below.

  • Monday, June 20:

    • 5:30 pm

      • Reno Tahoe Junior Cycling & Reno Devo are holding their second youth club ride of the summer. These rides are for riders age 5-10 years old who are able to ride a 2 wheel pedal bike unassisted and want to get better at riding.       • The Dames of Dirt will be riding mountain bikes from the Hoge road trailhead. The Dames are a great ladies mountain bike group that ride all around the area and their group rides are always a fun and welcoming experience. More info available on their facebook group page.

  • Tuesday, June 21:

  • 8:00 am

    • Biggest Little Trail Stewards will be flagging new trail routes for the North East Peavine Trails Grant. They are looking for volunteers to help out. This will require hiking on unimproved and unstable slopes of varying brush coverage. For more information and RSVP, check out their Facebook Events Page.

  • 5:00 pm

    • Reno Wheelmen are hosting their Twilight Road Series Aircenter Criterium race. This is a wheel to wheel circuit race on a paved road course. Come on out to the start/finish line to cheer riders on or race. Races are run in the order Beginner (Category C), Intermediate (Category B), and then Advanced (Category A) with checkin beginning at 5pm. There is onsite registration.   • 5:30 pm

    • Tuesday Night Ride Group (TNRG) are celebrating the longest day of the year by riding the Truckee Emigrant Trail from the Stampede reservoir end. If you are new to TNRG rides, there is no mass start so bring a friend or introduce yourself to who ever is around when you set off. Ride as long as you like. Most TNRG rides will have an after ride social at the start point so if you want to join in, pay attention to the flow of riders heading back. Check their Facebook Group Page for the most current updates.

    • Radical Adventure Riders Reno (RARReno) and Reno Bike Project are hosting their Femme, Trans, Women (FTW) bike clinic and social at RBP’s shop on Grove Street. This is a welcoming opportunity to connect with other FTW (+ non-binary and gender fluid) riders as well as work on your own bike or a group project.   • 5:45 pm

    • Silver State Striders are running trails out of the Thomas Creek Horse Trailer parking lot with options of ~6 or ~9 miles. Meeting at the North end of Timberline road where the bathrooms and large gravel parking is. More details on their website.

  • Wednesday, June 22:

    • 5:30 am

      • (Last Week’s Ride. Will update when they post this week. This is pretty consistent at the moment so it may be the same.)Reno Del Fuegos are riding mountain bikes from the Rancho San Rafael softball fields early in the morning. This is always a very relaxed and welcoming small group ride worth checking out. For more information you can checkout their Facebook Groups Page.

    • 5:00 pm

      • Reno Wheelmen’s weekly Verdi road ride. Start and end at the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation building (50 Cowan Drive, 89509) in Idlewild Park between the train ride and the softball fields. There is a one time waiver to be signed so give yourself enough time before the 5pm roll out to set up and sign in. This is an out and back with social pace on the out and choose your own adventure pace on the way back. Lights, including rear red, and reflective attire suggested as well as be prepared to service your own flats should that happen.

      • Reno Tahoe Junior Cycle/ Reno Devo is holding their next Wednesday Night Worlds Short Track Cross Country mountain bike races at Sky Tavern. These races happen most every other week through July and funds raised go toward local youth athletes training and racing. Registration closes Monday nights on the event website here. Even if you don’t race, come out and cheer on the racers and enjoy the local enthusiasm. Novice heats start at 5pm, Open rolls at 6:10pm.

    • 7:45 pm

      • Bike Night Reno will be rolling out a huge group of riders of all kinds from the Space Whale in Downtown. As their name suggests, this is a night ride so lights are required. Whether it’s a simple headlamp and taillight or full on burner bike light-splosion is entirely up to you. This is a mostly flat road ride at an extremely social pace.   • Thursday, June 23:

    • 5:30 am

      • The IsPeavineDry.com Peavine Dawn Patrol easy ride will roll out from the Keystone East trailhead. This mountain bike ride goes for between an hour and 90 minutes and is always easy effort. See you bright and early!

    • 5:45 pm

      • Silver State Striders are running from the Jones/Whites Creek Trailhead for ~9 miles depending on route options. More details on their website.

    • 6:00 pm

      • RAR Reno are having their Craft Night and New Member orientation at West Street Market. This is open to members, friends, and allies so come out and get to know the RAR crew. More information available by following @rar.reno on instagram.

    • 6:30 pm

      • Biggest Little Trail Stewards are holding their monthly meeting at MiCasa Too on West 4th Street. These meetings are open to all. If you want to get involved in the behind the scenes work to maintain and build trail in the Truckee Meadows, or are just curious about what goes into those efforts, come on out.   • Friday, June 24:

    • 7:00 am

      • Coffee Outside Reno will be riding and enjoying coffee outside from the Bartley Ranch park in south Reno. For more information and past ride pictures, follow them @coffeeoutsidereno on instagram.

    • 4:30 pm

      • Reno Del Fuegos are riding mountain or gravel bikes to the old aviation arrow for a quick overnight bikepacking trip from the Horseman’s park parking lot on Skyline Drive. RDF rides are always very relaxed and welcoming small group worth checking out. You can overnight with them or just make this an evening out and back. For more information you can checkout their Facebook Groups Page.

  • Saturday, June 25:

    • TBD

      • RAR Reno will be guiding a beginner friendly bikepacking overnight campout. Specific details of time and location will be made available by following @rar.reno on instagram.

    • 8:00 am

      • Silver State Striders are not organizing a Saturday run this week. It is the Western States Endurance race and they are staffing the aid station at Forest Hill. They always appreciate more aid station volunteers to keep the fun atmosphere rolling. Good luck to everyone staffing and racing this weekend! More details on their Facebook Group Page.

      • Rancho San Rafael park is turning 40! As part of the celebrations, Biggest Little Trail Stewards are guiding a fun ride starting from the Marianna Pavilion (May Museum parking lot) . There will be two rides for differing skill groups and then activities throughout the park afterwards to celebrate the birthday. More details available on BLTS’s facebook events page.
