Weekend Outlook 3/12-3/14, 2021

The Sun Will Come Out… tomorrow!

Did anyone else see that forecast for thundersnow today? After a typical high desert spring week of snow in the morning dry by the afternoon, the outdoor activity weather is making a comeback right on time! That’s right, drying breezes and plenty of sweet sweet sunshine forecast for Friday through Sunday. Might be a good time to go find your sunscreen.

I got out for a dawn patrol scoot around Keystone Canyon and Poedunk this morning. Despite the multiple rounds of snow this week everything was frosty and dry. Looking uphill there were no obvious new snow patches in protected slopes either so even with the dusting we got this afternoon, I’m leaving the front page conditions as is for now. Lower and most of mid mountain are dry. Protected slopes will continue to be snow and mud with isolated wet spots in lower elevations. Overnight temps will be well below freezing so expect hard and brisk conditions if you’re chasing the early worm.

As always, if you get out on the mountain, submit a trail report and let us know how it is. I’ll update the front page as reports come in.
