Weekend Outlook 12/01-12/04, 2022

Trail Damage Warning:

  • Whites Creek had some serious flooding in the early August round of downpours. Major trail damage along much of the lower section of trail as well as some of the upper section. The local trail managers are all aware of the damage and would appreciate users seeking alternate routes until they are able to get repairs done. Due to the extensive nature of the current damage, that may not be this year. If you are planning on doing the Dry Pond loop, be careful or consider an out and back on the Thomas Creek side.

Weekend Events:

Here are the events that are on the radar for this weekend:

  • Thursday, December 01:

    • 5:45 pm

      • Silver State Striders will be running road and paved trail from the Glen Hare Center (350 Hunter Lake Dr) out to Dorostkar Park and back. The full distance is 6 ish miles but you can trim or extend to your needs. Headlamps and reflective clothing are a must. With snow in the forecast, traction aids may also help. Check their Facebook Group Page for more details. You can also find their training schedule on their website at this link.

  • Saturday, December 03:

    • 8:00 am

    • 2:00 pm

      • Radical Adventure Riders (RAR) Reno and Northern Nevada Bikepacking are teaming up to bring you Coffee Tea Outside (I’m told there will be coffee too). This week’s afternoon cup of micro-adventure on bikes will meet at Bartley Ranch Regional Park. More information about joining can be found by following @coffeeoutsidereno on Instagram.

Trail Outlook

  • Rain, snow, and then more snow. This may be a shutout weekend for dry trails. Friday is the only day expected to be clear, calm, and cold so there may be some localized melt in direct sunshine but overall we can expect most region trails to be muddy if not covered in snow. It’s a good weekend to either play in the snow or just plan indoor activities. Tahoe Meadows Nordic ski routes have been groomed and are open to the public.

If you are swapping the running and riding for a little back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. The expected storms are likely to bring heavy over weak layers, wind loading, and scouring. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

December 01, 2022 weekend trails forecast. Snow. Maybe not quite this bad, but you get the idea.
