Weekend Outlook 11/03-11/06, 2022

Temporary Trail Closure:

  • Tahoe Pyramid Trail between Floriston and Hirschdale will is closed to all traffic for at least one more week for repair work. There are no alternate routes other than driving the highway so plan for out and back trips if you want to use the adjacent portions of the trail. For more details and current trail warnings, check the official Tahoe Pyramid trail website linked here. (11/01 note: TPT has announced that this closure is “Until Further Notice” and they are hoping for reopening this section “sometime in November.”)

Trail Damage Warning:

  • Whites Creek had some serious flooding in the early August round of downpours. Major trail damage along much of the lower section of trail as well as some of the upper section. The local trail managers are all aware of the damage and would appreciate users seeking alternate routes until they are able to get repairs done. Due to the extensive nature of the current damage, that may not be this year. If you are planning on doing the Dry Pond loop, be careful or consider an out and back on the Thomas Creek side.

Trail Outlook

  • Mixed conditions depending on timing and elevation this weekend. Thursday morning will be cold enough the mud is likely to freeze and only begin to thaw around midmorning or once the sun gets on it. A lot of sun exposed areas dried on Wednesday afternoon so there will be some excellent dirt conditions in many places on the mountain going into the weekend. High elevation trails may hang onto snow and mud into Friday morning but the Fri/Sat high temps are likely to dry and firm up the whole trail network. Saturday night rain and wind are expected through Sunday. This may be only a lot of threatening clouds and a sprinkle, or we could see a prolonged drenching. This may be a good Sunday to winterize your outdoor kit. Have a great weekend!

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.
