Temporary Trail Closure

  • Wednesday - Friday, May 24-26:

    • The Tahoe Pyramid Trail is undergoing rockfall removal and repair work with heavy equipment along the 1 mile stretch immediately east (downstream) of Floriston. There is no bypass around this portion of trail so if you are coming from the downstream Fleisch Bridge/Farad direction, you will not be able to reach the pavement or boardwalk at Floriston and will need to return the way you came. Crews are working hard to ensure that the trail is open for the holiday weekend.

Trail Outlook

  • We’re cycling through some pretty intense thunderstorm and rain showers every afternoon this weekend but so far the trails are holding up great and the flowers are absolutely loving it. For best results right now, get out in the mornings and breathe in the perfume of the hillsides. All of Peavine trails are now open. If you are venturing above the Mahogany Bench, please ride straight through the mud and ruts where water is still running in the trail. This is actually better for the trails than going around because it keeps single track single and helps round off the sharp edges of water channels.

  • Galena trails: The Dry Pond loop of Thomas and Whites Creek is now snow free as well as the Sierra Front Connector from Thomas to Ballardini Ranch. Be cautious on the White’s Creek switch backs nearest Dry Pond. Runoff washed off the topsoil and exposed plenty of marble stone hazards ranging from golf to soccer ball size. If you are just getting up there for the first time this season, keep the speed down and head up to stay upright and having fun.

  • Tahoe Pyramid Trail in the canyon between Truckee and Verdi is clear. One section will be closed Thursday and Friday but should be open for the weekend. Relatedly, the Henness Pass road connecting Verdi and Stampede is now snow free if you are looking to do the Reno-Truckee gravel loop.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

May 25, 2023 Conditions. Isolated water in trail conditions above the Mahogany Bench. Dry across the rest of the mountain single track.
