Weekend Outlook 06/01-06/04, 2023

IPD Reader Survey:

  • I’d love to know more about who you so I can continue to improve this website. Please complete the IPD Reader Survey linked here. The responses will help me better understand who is using the website, how, and what I can do to keep being a useful resource in our trails community. Thank you in advance! [Last weekend of the survey so if you’ve been putting it off, take five minutes and get it done. -PS]

Trail Karma Opportunity:

  • Thursday, June 01:

    • Biggest Little Trail Stewards are finishing the new adaptive mountain bike trail at Sierra Vista Park and looking for volunteers to help out starting at 8:00 am. Trail work is always a valued way of giving back to the community and many times gives you the first opportunity to ride new or fresh trails. To RSVP and for more information, check out the Facebook Event page linked here.

  • Saturday, June 03:

    • As part of the National Trails Day events, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation and Biggest Little Trail Stewards are looking for volunteers for doing light maintenance around the Thomas Creek Trailhead starting at 8:30 am. There has been a lot of weather related trail damage up and around Thomas Creek and the trail traffic is already picking up so this will be well appreciated. To RSVP and for more information, check out TMPF’s event web page linked here.

Temporary Trail Closure

  • Through Friday, June 02:

    • The Tahoe Pyramid Trail is undergoing rockfall removal and repair work with heavy equipment along the 1 mile stretch immediately east (downstream) of Floriston. There is no bypass around this portion of trail so if you are coming from the downstream Fleisch Bridge/Farad direction, you will not be able to reach the pavement or boardwalk at Floriston and will need to return the way you came.

Trail Traffic Advisory

  • Friday & Saturday, June 02 & 03:

    • The Reno Tahoe Odyssey annual relay race is going on this weekend with the start and finish at Wingfield Park in Downtown Reno. Expect higher than normal runner and van traffic downtown and along the Truckee River Friday morning, around the west and south side of Tahoe Friday evening, and then between Carson City, Viriginia City, and Downtown on Saturday morning. If you see the runners out there, give them room on the road and an encouraging cheer or honk.

Trail Outlook

  • The afternoon thunderstorms are expected to take a break Friday and Saturday so we are in for a treat. All these intense downpours intermixed with the holiday traffic last weekend have buffed out a lot of trails and kept everything together. While the holiday weekend may be over, the snow up high means popular Truckee Meadows trails will continue to be the destination for outdoor enthusiasts like yourself. Get out early or be prepared to smile and waive a lot. Whatever you do outside, just remember, you’re still getting outside. :)

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

May 25, 2023 Conditions. Isolated water in trail conditions above the Mahogany Bench. Dry across the rest of the mountain single track.
