Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 07/17-07/23, 2023

Trail Karma Opportunities:

  • Saturday & Sunday, July 22-23, Multiple Times:

    • City of Reno Adaptive Sports program is seeking volunteer experienced mountain bike riders and coaches to work with adaptive mountain bike riders during their adaptive mountain bike camp held at Sky Tavern. To see time slots and sign up, check out their signupgenious event page linked here. For more information, contact April Wolfe through the City of Reno Adaptive Cycling website linked here.

Trail Outlook: Hot

  • No major weather on the horizon for this week beyond just very hot afternoons and afternoon to evening winds. Overnight cooling will make early morning temperatures the best time to be out. If you do go out after noon, make sure to pack extra food and water or head to higher elevations to beat the heat.

This Week’s Events:

  • Monday, July 17:

    • 6:30 pm

      • Radical Adventure Riders (RAR) Reno are shredding ~10 miles of intermediate trails of the peav from Keystone Canyon trailhead. This is a very inclusive and welcoming mountain bike ride for FTWNB riders. If you don’t have a mountain bike yet, they have some limited loaners too. To RSVP and for more information, follow @rar.reno on instagram.

  • Tuesday, July 18:

    • 4:00-11:00 pm

      • Truckee Trails Foundation is offering a free bike valet at Truckee High School for people taking the free shuttle to West End Beach independence day festivities. If you are heading in that direction, consider riding or walking to the shuttle pickup instead of fighting with the traffic around Donner.

    • 5:30 pm

      • Tuesday Night Ride Group is riding at Sky Tavern Ski Area. This is a choose your own distance ride so do as many laps as you like. TNRG is a casual mountain bike ride group for all skill levels. They don’t wait for a mass start, so when you arrive, introduce yourself or just start riding as you like. More details can be found at their Facebook Group Page linked here.

    • 7:45 pm

      • Bike Night Reno will be rolling out a group of riders of all kinds from the Space Whale in Downtown. As their name suggests, this is a night ride so lights are required. Whether it’s a simple headlamp and taillight or full on burner bike light-splosion is entirely up to you. This is a mostly flat road ride friendly to all wheeled contraptions at an extremely social pace. For more information, follow @bikenightreno on instagram.

In Other News:

  • The July community bike day with High 5s and City of Reno at Sky Tavern was a hit. Read more about the event, why we are building more adaptive trails, and some great photos on the High 5s blog post linked here. If that inspires you to want to help support adaptive athletes, see the Trail Karma Opportunity at the top of the page for a chance to do exactly that this weekend.

  • Truckee Dirt Union notes that heavy logging activities are scheduled this summer around the Truckee region especially above Donkey Town and Jackass Ridge and ask that trail users respect closures and logging equipment traffic. For more details as well as more resources on current conditions specific to Truckee and North Lake area, check out their Instagram post linked here.

That’s what’s on my radar at the moment. If you know of something I missed or is coming soon, send me an email  and it might get listed. See you outside!
