Upcoming Events 6/07-6/13

New Weekly Post

With the outdoor season now in full swing, I thought it may be of service to all of y’all if there was a singular place to see who is doing what in the coming week. At first, this list will be very incomplete because it relies on me finding out about the event before it happens. My hope over time is y’all will give me a heads up and some details, just like the trail reports, so that this can serve as a singular place for a quick look at what is on the calendar for the week. Since the greater Reno/Tahoe area is so abundant with activity opportunities, I can see this getting out of hand with listings. With that in mind, here is a rough sketch of the (loose) boundaries for getting events on these posts:

  • Active Events (Run, Bike, Hike, etc) or

  • Multimodal Advocacy (Trail Karma, Council Meetings, etc)

  • Truckee Meadows Local

  • Access Changes Impacting Trails (Fire, Construction, Other Events, etc)

If you are an event organizer, or just a participant that knows of something coming up, send me an email about it and you might see it on the weekly post.

This Week’s Events

  • Through June:

    • Sky Tavern Ski and Bike Park is fundraising for their next round of trail construction via a mountain bike raffle. More info at the link.

  • Tuesday, June 8, 5pm:

    • Reno Wheelmen’s Twilight Road Race series starts up with the Boca Time Trial. This is a Merkx style TT so leave your aero bars and disc wheel at home. ~18 miles on a rolling out and back course that is open to regular road user traffic. Open to members and non-members alike. Pre-registration only. Further details on their website.

  • Tuesday, June 8, 5:30pm:

    • Tuesday Night Ride Group, as their name suggests, will have their weekly mountain bike ride. The ride changes location each week so check their Facebook group or join their google email group to get direct updates. This week (6/8) they are meeting at Emigrant Trail in Truckee and rolling out around 5:30pm. No details on which trailhead have been posted yet so watch their FB page for that. If this is your first TNRG ride, know they don’t have a mass start or group guides so it’s on new riders to either bring their own friends or make some by introducing yourself.

  • Tuesday, June 8, 5:45pm:

    • Silver State Striders’ Tuesday evening group run/hike is departing from the Thomas Creek Horse Trailer Parking lot. Groups will have their choice of just the Dry Pond loop (6mi) or adding a 3 mile kicker up to the wilderness sign on the Thomas Creek side. Details on their website.

  • Wednesday, June 9, 5pm:

    • Reno Wheelmen’s casual Verdi road ride rolls as a group from the CVS parking lot at Booth and California Ave at 5pm. ~25 miles paved with the option to add loops in verdi and multiple regroup points on the way out for those less familiar with the route. Open to members and non-members alike. Details on their website.

  • Thursday, June 3, 5:45pm:

    • Silver State Striders’ Thursday evening group run is departing from the Galena Creek Park Trailhead for the ~9 mile Jones/Whites loop. Details on their website.

  • Saturday, June 12, 8am:

    • Silver State Striders’ Saturday group run is departing from the Olympic (Formerly Squaw) Valley parking lot for some serious vertical up and over the Escarpment into the Granite Chief wilderness (~12 miles). Details on their website.

  • Saturday, June 19, 8-11am:

    • Muscle Powered is hosting an outdoor gear swap in Carson City. Vendor fees plus a small portion of sales go toward their ongoing mission of multimodal access in and around the carson valley area. You can register to sell your own gear, donate gear for them to sell, or shop at the swap. Any muscle-powered outdoor gear welcome, but no hunting equipment, guns, ammo or archery gear, no motorsports gear, and no used safety gear like bike helmets. Registration link and more information at the link.

That’s what’s on my radar at the moment. If you know of something I missed or is coming soon, send me an email and it might get listed. See you outside!
