Trail Outlook

This is one of those forecasts that I’m so excited for if it develops as predicted. Thursday and Friday are likely to continue this unsettled precipitation and wind pattern we have had so far this week, but Saturday and Sunday are looking to be pristine. Calm winds, firm soil, suns out, funs out kind of conditions. The water that has come down so far (as of Thursday noon) has been significant enough to wet and grease up the previously dry trails and the overnight is likely to put a dusting of wet snow on top, but the warming and winds of Friday should take all but maybe the Mahogany Forest trails back to firm if not dry by Saturday morning.

If you are swapping the running and riding for the last of the back country sliding, check out the latest avalanche conditions over at Sierra Avalanche Center. These late storms are bringing lots of fresh heavy snow and wind loading that contributes to highly variable local conditions. Late season avalanches have taken a harsh toll in the sierras in years past. Knowing where to look can make the difference of coming home.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.
