Weekend Outlook 10/27-10/31, 2022 (Nevada Day Weekend)

Trail Karma Opportunity:

  • Northern Nevada Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is running their annual fundraiser giveaway. Top prizes include a full suspension mountain bike and some very nice gear. Entries are being sold online through this Friday, October 28. Funds raised from this will support more kids in middle and high school in the region being able to experience bike riding and racing as part of their scholastic program. To make a donation for entry into the giveaway and for more information, check out the giveaway page linked here.

Temporary Trail Closure:

  • Tahoe Pyramid Trail between Floriston and Hirschdale will is closed to all traffic for at least one more week for repair work. There are no alternate routes other than driving the highway so plan for out and back trips if you want to use the adjacent portions of the trail. For more details and current trail warnings, check the official Tahoe Pyramid trail website linked here. (10/27 note: TPT has not made any announcement about this work being completed yet so assume this closure remains in effect until I update this post.)

Trail Damage Warning:

  • Whites Creek had some serious flooding in the early August round of downpours. Major trail damage along much of the lower section of trail as well as some of the upper section. The local trail managers are all aware of the damage and would appreciate users seeking alternate routes until they are able to get repairs done. Due to the extensive nature of the current damage, that may not be this year. If you are planning on doing the Dry Pond loop, be careful or consider an out and back on the Thomas Creek side.

Trail Outlook

  • The holiday weekend is looking very nice considering how deep into fall we are getting. There is a chance for upper elevation snow and some water down lower but at the moment the storm is expected to be light on the actual precipitation and temperatures are supposed to stay moderate so very little trail impact on Peavine and a chance of impact on Sunday into Monday for higher elevation trails around Sky Tavern and Mt Rose area. Since we are getting closer to winter, pack for rapid weather shifts. Layers and shells with an extra snack and measure or two more water. Being cautious this time of year is better than becoming a headline for the wrong reasons. Have a great holiday weekend and don’t steal too much of your kids’ candy.

If you get out, let us know what you saw by submitting a trail report.

Be kind, be safe, and enjoy.

Top to bottom dry.
