Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 12/13-12/19

Limited Traction Possible

  • We get a little of everything that makes outdoor activities slippy this week. If you have a fatbike or ice spikes for the shoes, this is the week to make sure they are in working condition. Rain turning to snow through to Tuesday afternoon with a second dose of snow Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon. Declining temperatures throughout the week also means high chance of black ice or just plain old ice ice. If there is a relatively best window this week for outdoors, it will be Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday evening and Thursday midday on. This is all highly dependent on hard ground freezes, drying, and soaking speed so I’ll keep the front page updated as conditions evolve.

Sierra Vista Pump Track Fundraising

  • It’s time to go round and round and up and down. And I’m not talking about trying to find parking at Keystone on a Saturday. I’m talking PUMP TRACK! Yup, after the survey results about Sierra Vista Park were so clearly in favor, the fundraising is ongoing. To donate and for more information, click through to the GoFundMe site.

Youth Job Training Opportunity

  • Reno Bike Project has begun recruitment for the upcoming FutureCycle cohort, to begin in January 2022. Specifically, the organization is looking for six youth, ages 16-24. Preferred candidates are those who think bikes can change lives, are interested in teaching, aren’t afraid to get dirty or afraid of a challenge, communicate well, are curious and excited to learn, and are fully COVID-19 vaccinated. Applications are due by December 20. Link for more info: https://renobikeproject.org/program/futurecycle/

      • Reno Del Fuegos have not announced a ride yet this week but since they are consistent, I’m leaving last week’s info up for now. I’ll update when they do.

      • Silver State Striders are running hills in the old southwest. Meeting at Eclipse Running on Lakeside. Lights and reflective attire required and traction aids a strong suggestion due to winter conditions. More details on their website.

  • Saturday, December 17:

    • 8:00am

      • Silver State Striders are running long on mixed surfaces. 18 miles for the full loop with options to turn back. Starting from Walden’s at Mayberry Landing. Traction aids are strongly suggested due to expected ice and snow. More details on their Facebook Group Page.

    • 8:00am

      • Muscle Powered Carson city will be road riding from Fremont Elementary School.

That’s what’s on my radar at the moment. If you know of something I missed or is coming soon, send me an email and it might get listed. See you outside!
