Is Peavine Dry?

Weekday Trail Outlook and Upcoming Events 11/01-11/07

Stable (ish) Conditions

While the sun exposure over the weekend really helped firm up south and east facing slopes, those areas that are mostly shaded continue to stay soft and wet. And that will be the state of the trail surfaces for this mid week. Monday and Thursday will have enough cloud cover that softness will only improve via drainage and deeper soaking which are both very slow on our mountain. With only slight chances of rain today and Thursday, we probably won’t see a swing to poor conditions, but lacking significant wind and a continued stable high humidity, the trails aren’t going to get much drier than they are either.

In general, it will be nice weather and trails for the last TNRG ride of the season on Tuesday. Just be mindful of possible weak areas of trail up higher and on the shade slopes but otherwise enjoy!

Weekend Trail Reports

Thursday, 10/28 Midday:

Keystone Canyon still very wet with multiple walk-around spots. Total Recall is also hit and miss as high as the Halo split. Poe Dunk from Keystone East lot is rideable as an out-and-back as high as the lower bench before crossing to the North facing side. 3-4 more days at least of sun before Peavine is mostly rideable. -Vic DeNigris

Sunday, 10/31 Midday:

Rode Poedunk, Fisticuffs, E. Keystone Canyon, Total Recall, Stagecoach, UNR DH, N, and snake run. Every section was dry with the exception of a few easily avoidable wet patches here and there. Because there is still lingering moisture of south aspects, it’s probably safe to assume that trails on north aspects are still a no-go. Currently the biggest hazard to look out for are ruts that were eroded away by the huge amount of precipitation. These ruts are deep and long and will eat your front wheel if you’re not careful. Bad ruts exist on fisticuffs, UNR DH, and Snake run. The storm erosion has also exposed many more rocks N trail and snake run. Stage coach (for the most part) is tacky and ripping. Go out and ride! -Spencer C.
