Weekend Outlook 6/25-6/27, 2021

It’s officially summer! And the thunderstorms have been rolling. Time to get out early or after the downpours. Note of caution, while Reno hasn’t had it yet, we’ve had a few storm cells pass near the truckee meadows that triggered hail warnings estimating quarter size stones. Make a quick check of the hourly forecast so you don’t get caught out in one of these more dangerous storm cells.

As a reminder, RTC has fired up the new FlexRide route between Galena and Incline Village/Sand Harbor. $5 one-way for all drops except Sand Harbor (+$2 to cover park entry). Multiple drop-off/pickup locations up on the mountain. And the vans have bike racks. ;) More details at the link.

Weekend Events:

Here are the events that are on the radar for the fourth weekend of June:

  • Through June:

    • Sky Tavern Ski and Bike Park is fundraising for their next round of trail construction via a mountain bike raffle. More info at the link.

  • Thursday, June 24, 5:45pm:

    • Silver State Striders Thursday night run is the Jones/Whites Creek Loop (9mi). Meeting at the Jones/White’s creek trailhead at Galena Creek park. Details on their website .

  • Saturday, June 26:

    • Silver State Striders are not organizing a run this Saturday since it is the 48th running of the Western States Endurance run from Olympic Valley to Auburn. Good luck to all the runners.

Trail Outlook

This weekend looks amazing! The breeze is holding off, the thunder cells are supposed to hold off, and the peak heat isn’t expected to roll in until Monday. Plus, last night’s extended soaking has cut the dust and given us a little moisture for hero dirt conditions. So stop reading the internet and go enjoy the outdoors!

As always, if you get out on the mountain, submit a trail report and let us know how it is. I’ll update the front page as reports come in.
